The kiosk was built in 1897, a year after Sheikh Mubarak assumed the reins of power. The kiosk, in the Kuwaiti dialect, is a square-shaped building with two floors. The lower floor contains shops and the upper floor consists of a majlis that can be reached through an external staircase. Perhaps the first person to build a kiosk in Kuwait was Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah
